Get Well Inlaid Diecut

This card owes it existence to something akin to the chicken and the egg debate. Inspiration from The Card Concept, Paper Smooches Sparks and CCEE Stampers Challenge blogs. I've used the PS Sparks February sketch, inlaid diecutting from CCEE Stampers and the colours, textures and multimedia style from The Card Concept inspiration photo.

I've stamped with distress inks and pigment ink. The background is watercoloured with distress inks, with aqua dolce gelato blended with my finger and more distress ink around the edges. I've covered the embossing paste with stickles and splatted some distress paint. I've white washed the wooden vase with distress paint and a white colouring pencil to mimic the white wood in the inspiration photo. The central vase is a homage to the vase I instagrammed a few weeks ago and is coloured with brushed pewter distress spray stain. The third vase is velum, coloured with a Sky Blue ProMarker and I've added seed beads to look like the decorative glass beads that can be added to vases.
Perspective is a tad skewed with the sliver vase and it appears to be floating a little. My die cutting was a little high and I only noticed it as I  edited the photos, when it was too late to start again. I don't know if I would have started again anyway, as the die cutting was quite intricate and this is a piece of art where the rules of physics don't need to apply!

Happy Birthday Minion

Grá O'Neill- Paper Learning Curve: Lawn Fawn Violet's ABCs, Cole's ABCs, Quinn's 123s, Speech Bubble Border, Simon Says Stamp Happy die, Polka Dot Party stencil

I decided to recycle some wrapping paper for this card, as my lot are obsessed with the Minions and so are their friends. The pearlescent embossing paste was coloured with Memento Luxe Dandelion Yellow ink and spread on kraft cardstock through the Polka-Dot stencil from Simon Says Stamp. The card base is a little larger than the stencil, so I waited for the first lot of dots to dry, repositioned the stencil using some of the dry dots as a guide and embossed the rest of the cardstock.

I used a craft knife to have Phil crashing through the screen like they do in the film. As he is just wrapping paper I've coated him in matte multi-medium, added some white gel pen, wink of stella and googly eyes.

I've used black sparkly embossing powder on the happy diecut & birthday sentiment and Dandelion Yellow Luxe ink for the rest of it. The Lawn Fawn Quinn's No. 6 was coloured with the yellow ink then covered in stickles instead of stamping with it's coresponding stamp.

Please excuse the poorly lit photos, today was a completely mixed bag. On the bright side there were lots of rainbows!

It's celebrations all round with Craft for the Craic's first birthday and Lawnscaping's 100th Challenge. Looking forward to many more challenges.
I also want to enter this into the first Lawn Fawn and Simon Says Stamp Flickr Co-Challenge.

Smitten

Grá O'Neill Paper Learning Curve: Paper Smooches Good Gab, Quilling

Clare Buswell's fabulous quilling inspired me to try my hand at a simple quilled heart. Clare's quilled creations are amazing and this is my very simple version of quilling. I acquired a quilling tool a few years ago, but never used it. I still haven't as I couldn't find it and had to fashion one out of a toothpick! Not the best start, but it was very enjoyable, I love the tightly coiled pieces of paper. I probably coiled them too tightly as I was enjoying it too much!

Grá O'Neill Paper Learning Curve: Paper Smooches Good Gab, Quilling

This card is very CAS, one layer of cardstock with one graphic image/embellishment made from one thin strip and lots of white space. I had to resist all temptation to keep adding layers- not an easy task for me. I loved it, as a result of my first attempt at quilling a wonky heart. But was it enough? I had my doubts, but I slapped my hands away and I'm proud of my restraint. I now love it because it's so CAS, plus my SIL said it was nice too. We all like to hear nice things.

CAS Happy Birthday OLC

For this card I decided to blend some paper and some Promarkers. I've used diffuser plates to partially emboss my card, so that the raised swirls blend to flat cardstock and I've blended 3 Promarkers so that there were no harsh lines. I've also used some distress ink around the outside, so the white transitions to Peacock Feathers ever so slightly.

It's hard to see in the photograph but the paper aeroplane's trail has been stickled!

A close up of some of the blending.

OLC Watercolour Thanks

Grá O'Neill Paper Learning Curve: Paper Smooches Crystal Clear, Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, Scripty Thanks

I've coloured directly on to the Paper Smooches stamps with distress markers, huffed and stamped while masking the silver vase. The leaves were then shaded with a distress marker. The Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge Inspirational Photo was a great starting point, I focused on the big blooms in a solid darker vase, the pink colours and the silver mirror surface.
I have a very neglected large silvery vase that used to be polished and displayed, but now languishes in a corner. I may have to get the polish out this weekend and bring some bright springtime cheer to my house. Instagram has the before shot, but I don't know when the after shot will go up, if you discount my stamped vase!

Thick watercolour paper meant that my die cut nearly all the way through, so a label is keeping everything in place on the inside, just in case we have a wardrobe malfunction and something falls out! However it was worth it as I love the watercolour effect of all the blended distress makers on the textured watercolour paper.

Blended OLC Poppy Birthday

Paper Learning Curve- Grá O'Neill: Clearly Besotted Stamps Brushed Poppies, Fabulous Fuchsias

I love the way in which Distress inks blend. However, my flowers blended a little too well, as I stamped the second colour while the first was still very wet, resulting in very little definition between them. I restamped the darker colour and used a watercolour brush to aid the process. The stems underwent the same procedure minus the restamping and the background square was doodled with a watercolour brush.

I added some Wink of Stella to the flower sentiments and stamped the sentiment in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black.

This is a special birthday card for my Auntie Pauline. I've posted it a little early, but as she doesn't have an internet connection, I'm pretty certain it will remain a surprise until the postman delivers it! Hopefully this will bring a little brightness and beauty to the still dull February days!

A quick shout out for Craft for the Craic who turn one this month: Lá breithe sona duit, go maire tú an céad!
