Mermaid Mixed Media

Paper Learning Curve - Grá O'Neill : EK Success Disney Collection, Prima Finnabair Bubbles, Simon Says Stamp Waves stencil, Docrafts Cameos, flowers, metal, mixed media

My mixed media madness continues with a special mermaid underworld scene for a very special 21 year old who's Disney mad. This was a labour of love and I enjoyed every minute. Wonderful for me, but for you it means I've taken lots of pictures and this post will challenge your broadband!

I started with embossing paste and stencils, a coat of gesso and then by sticking all my bits and bobs in place, then covered it all with black gesso. This was very nerve racking for me, but after attending a fabulous Finnabair class last year I knew I want to try it.

Now to add back in some colour with mica powders in sprays and gels. This was a lot of fun and I may have got a little carried away as there was some seepage through all the layers of card. This wasn't a problem as I covered the back with patterned paper.

I then prepared the central panel. I wanted a sunken treasure feel, so I diecut a frame several times, coated it in black gesso and distressed it with gold mica powder, perfect pearls, mica flakes and glitter. Ariel [EK Success stamp] is coloured with promarkers, covered with stickles, crackle accents, wink of stella.

Some close ups of all the details. Sorry in advance, I find it difficult to stop adding to a canvas and now it's the same with all the photographs I've taken!

Mixed Media Stencil

Paper Learning Curve - Grá O'Neill: Simon Says Stamp Birthday Farm Animals, Falling Snow stencil, Prima Audrey Doll, Finnabair Harlequin stencil - Mixed Media

Mixed media background fun! This is a quick way to let your creativity roam. I started by gessoing my card to create a surface for stencilling and spraying. Then my inner child was activated as I emptied all my bits & bobs on to the table, spread them out and looked for just the right pieces for my card. After gluing, layering and drying I used pearlescent embossing paste through Finnabair's Harlequin stencil. When everything was dry, I added some white gesso to mute some of the elements original colour and some clear gesso where I wanted to keep it, then more drying time! Now to the spraying, two blues and a pink and then the glitter and micro beads. I found a relatively flat and clear place to stamp Happy Birthday in Stazon and added my doll.

The Audrey doll is coloured with promarkers and glitter paste stencilled through Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil and stickles is added to her skirt. I stamped in Memento Tuxedo black on some music script paper inspired by The Mixed Media  Monthly Challenge graphic.

Celebrate & Party Princess Dreams

Paper Learning Curve - Grá O'Neill: A Day For Daisies Little Princess, Lawn Fawn Violet's ABCs, Wplus9 Onesie Two-sie, Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles, Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil

Finally getting a chance to show this gorgeous image from A Day For Daisies. Welcoming a new baby to the family is certainly something to celebrate with a party and I've had a go at pink blending for the dress too. This has been a challenge for me, but I've finally got a mix I like! Unfortunately I put the markers away before I photographed them so I can't remember exactly which ones I've used. I only have a few pinks so I'll just have to do some more colouring practice, what a chore!! At least there is another 30 day colouring challenge next month.

HB Spring Chicken

Paper Learning Curve - Grá O'Neill: Simon Says Stamp Birthday Farm Animals, Falling Snow stencil

I love this little spring chicken from Simon Says Stamp, but I'm never sure if I've got the mouth right. I've chosen to colour him using Promarkers with his beak closed surrounded by a red wattle, but sometimes when I glance at him it looks like his mouth is open in a cluck! Either way he's perfect on this birthday card for a mature gentleman, who hopefully won't mind the joke.

The bubble/confetti background was created using glitter paste and SSS falling snow stencil. I've used wink of stella on the chicken in a few places and a glitter paste bow on the present. I don't think I'll do this again as it was very fiddly. I'll have to give this card another go with a few balloons for the chicken.

Wishing everyone a wondrous 2016!
I've been crafting away over the last few months, but have not been able to blog as much as I would have liked. Hopefully this will change in 2016, but as ever, family comes first! I've been using Instagram a little but have not even managed to read my favourite blogs. Feedly has thousands of post for me to peruse so it make take some time for me to get up to date but I look forward to reading and commenting when I make some spare time!
Thank you for taking the time to read and for all the lovely comments I've received over the last few years. Hope you'll visit again soon!

WMS June PJ Party #1

Grá O'Neill - Paper Learning Curve - Waltzingmouse Stamps Heroines- Fairy Princess, Half Pint Heroines, Paper Smooches Crystal Clear Stamps & Dies, Waltzingmouse Stamps Gift Card It die set, Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow stencil

Pickled Fairy shaker encouragement card, just in time for the Waltzingmouse Stamps June PJ party. My fairy princess is coloured with promarkers and flexmarkers and lots of glitter! The sentiment is the result of some masking. I've added glitter paste down the side using the Falling Snow stencil.

We Totally Click

Grá O'Neill- Paper Learning Curve: Paper Smooches We Totally Click, Simon Says Stamp Dot Stencil, Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles

Monochromatic ombre smooching using Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough and Pine Needles. I love how these colours blend together. My addiction to glitter continues as I've sprayed the background with iridescent glimmer mist and added a row of glitter paste through a Simon Says Stamp dot stencil.

The pens are heat embossed in white and liquid platinum on vellum, then fussy cut. The perfect image for the giant ink splat background! This is an anniversary card for my hubby, who after all this time still gets me!

WMS PJ Party Gift Tag

Grá O'Neill - Paper Learning Curve: Waltzingmouse Stamps Heroines- Fairy Princess, Half Pint Heros, Mama Elephant Up and Away, Lawn Fawn Tag You're It die, Simon Says Stamp Medium dots stencil

More Waltzingmouse Pajama Partying and I'm still dotty about glitter paste, but I've used gold this time. This is a fun tag for a bride to be with a little fiesta fringe in ombre pink and glitter, of course! I used some partial diecutting and a trimmer to make the large tag and distress markers and promarkers to colour the images.

Grá O'Neill - Paper Learning Curve: Waltzingmouse Stamps Heroines- Fairy Princess, Half Pint Heros, Mama Elephant Up and Away, Lawn Fawn Tag You're It die, Simon Says Stamp Medium dots stencil

Using watercolour cardstock left me with the dilemma of how to colour a white dress when the cardstock has a cream tone. I've used Old Paper and Weathered Wood to create some shadows and give the illusion of a white dress, the blue background wash and distress inking help enhance this. Clear Wink of Stella gives a subtle shine to the dress.
