Old Goat

Grá O'Neill- Paper Learning Curve: Simon Says Stamp Birthday Farm Animals stamps & dies, Mama Elephant Balloon et cetera, Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles

I've had a go at something a little different for me: Peel off outline stickers!  I won these in a raffle and thought they'd go well with the cupcake goat. I've used the CAS(E) this sketch #115 and a freestyle collage style for the Card Concept's cupcake challenge.

This little goat was coloured for  Kathy Racoosin's (The Daily Marker) 30 Day Colouring Challenge and I'm so glad he made it to a card. The goat is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, clear embossed and coloured with distress markers. The cupcake decorations are stamped in sliver & iridescent sparkle embossed.

Embossed Flowers

Grá O'Neill-Paper Learning Curve: Altenew Painted Flowers, Wplus9 Fresh Cut Flowers, Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, Simon Says Stamp Moroccan Stencil

With the fabulous inspiration from the Card Concept photo and design team, I wanted to create a card using flowers in the classy and elegant style. I love the Painted Flowers by Altenew and used their March Challenge From Places Abroad to design the gold geometric background on vellum taking a little inspiration from each of the photos.

Grá O'Neill-Paper Learning Curve: Altenew Painted Flowers, Wplus9 Fresh Cut Flowers, Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, Simon Says Stamp Moroccan Stencil

I've also played along with Craft for the Craic's Bingo using the diagonals: flowers, more than two layers [five] and diecut or image, more than two layers [five] and stitching. I wasn't sure if my flowers should be classified as such or as an image, so I hedged my bets!
Virginia's View Embossing Challenge was also on my mind with the embossing paste background, platinum embossed flowers and my die also embossed the card base a little as well.

Mixed Media & Embossed Thinking

Grá O'Neill- Paper Learning Curve: Lawn Fawn You've Got Mail, Clearly Besotted Basic Stripes, Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, Simon Says Stamp Polka Dot Party Stencil, Tim Holtz Dot Fade Stencil

Mixed Media background card with lots of embossing: embossing paste dots sanded back to white after applying gelato colour, sprays and stamped stripes, embossed label tape and white heat embossed then watercoloured images. I chose the background colours from the Card Concept's inspiration photo and sanded the embossing paste back to white as a nod to the vase in the photo.  But how did I go from flowers to postbox, I hear you ask! When your thinking of someone you might send flowers, but mostly you'll send a note through the post (or email through the internet) and as our postboxes are green and all spring like it was settled!

Grá O'Neill- Paper Learning Curve: Lawn Fawn You've Got Mail, Clearly Besotted Basic Stripes, Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, Simon Says Stamp Polka Dot Party Stencil, Tim Holtz Dot Fade Stencil

I've used the CAS(E) this sketch but, as the card involved lots of steps, fussy cutting and messing about with gelatos and sprays, it doesn't fall under their CAS theme. It does contain dots, stripes and lovely Lawn Fawn images so perfect for the Lawnscaping Challenge and three types of embossing for Virginia's View Embossing Challenge which is one year old this month. Embossing was one of the first techniques I tried as a cardmaker and I still love it in all its forms.

Anyone following me on Instagram will recognise the postbox. I originally coloured this as part of Kathy Racoosin's (The Daily Marker) 30 Day Colouring Challenge. It's lovely to see the coloured image on a card!

Get Well Inlaid Diecut

This card owes it existence to something akin to the chicken and the egg debate. Inspiration from The Card Concept, Paper Smooches Sparks and CCEE Stampers Challenge blogs. I've used the PS Sparks February sketch, inlaid diecutting from CCEE Stampers and the colours, textures and multimedia style from The Card Concept inspiration photo.

I've stamped with distress inks and pigment ink. The background is watercoloured with distress inks, with aqua dolce gelato blended with my finger and more distress ink around the edges. I've covered the embossing paste with stickles and splatted some distress paint. I've white washed the wooden vase with distress paint and a white colouring pencil to mimic the white wood in the inspiration photo. The central vase is a homage to the vase I instagrammed a few weeks ago and is coloured with brushed pewter distress spray stain. The third vase is velum, coloured with a Sky Blue ProMarker and I've added seed beads to look like the decorative glass beads that can be added to vases.
Perspective is a tad skewed with the sliver vase and it appears to be floating a little. My die cutting was a little high and I only noticed it as I  edited the photos, when it was too late to start again. I don't know if I would have started again anyway, as the die cutting was quite intricate and this is a piece of art where the rules of physics don't need to apply!

Pumpkin Patch Thanks

Lawn Fawn Spooktacular, Scripty Thanks, Simon Says Stamp Zig Zag

This autumn I was fascinated by all the white & gold pumpkins to be seen on the interweb, I wasn't brave enough to do it myself so I'll have to live vicariously through my cards. Virginia's View All Things Metallic Challenge has allowed me to indulge in my creative impulses without upsetting the kids who just wanted to carve the pumpkins. I've taken inspiration for my pumpkin patch from the Lawnscaping's Fall & Pumpkins Challenge and The Card Concept's Thank "fall" Challenge.

I've masked the face from my pumpkins and stamped in gold ink. Shading was added with a Cool Grey 3 ProMarker and a Bronze gel pen was used to colour the stalks. The pumpkins were then decorated using masks & gold embossing paste and stamps. The masked chevron stencil border echoes the wooden cladding in the photo inspiration.

Lawn Fawn Spooktacular, Scripty Thanks, Simon Says Stamp Zig Zag

At this time of year at 53ºN and with low pressure about, the quality of light is not all that you would wish, so my photos are a little darker than I would like. Oh for a photographic studio, but then I'd have to find another excuse!

Lawn Fawn Halloween

Lawn Fawn Spooktacular, Home Sweet Home

Lizzy's Halloween card on the Lawn Fawn blog inspired me to try some partial die cutting and Pamela Ho has a great video for partial die cutting of masked/joined images. I stamped the bats and then my hat, cat and pumpkin using some masking and then partially die cut the images in succession before using a craft knife to create a circular aperture. More partial die cutting to extend the large stitched rectangle die, lots of distress inking and a spritz of glimmer mist for the night sky and hey presto a cute CAS Halloween card!

Lawn Fawn Spooktacular, Home Sweet Home

I've been planning this card for ages but went away for the mid-term break without any craft supplies, hence my nearly missing the Lawnscaping deadline and the poor quickly taken photos. Thankfully my local craft club allowed me to make the time to get inky and sparkly! This card came together quite quickly and I love the CAS look.

In Ireland, Halloween is the biggest celebration in autumn and I've co-opted some American staples, such as pumpkins not turnips will be carved in this house. My Mum carved turnips for Jack-o-Lanterns before pumpkins were readily available and I don't recommend it, as turnips are very tough and lots of upper body strength is required! Oíche Shamhna Shona Daoibh!

Wplus9 Spotlight Floral Pearls

Wplus9 Fresh Cut Florals

My first attempt at the spotlight technique. I've used stamping as I didn't have any suitable dies and wanted to play along with Wplus9's Challenge. All my images are stamped in London Fog or Tuxedo Black on the card front and I've used Love Letter, Pistachio and Cottage Ivy for the diecut spotlighted flower. I created a Clean and Layered card for the Card Concept Floral Theme and used pearls for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. I couldn't find any black card for my layers so I've used Black soot distress ink to alter some white card.

Wplus9 Step Up Bold Pink

Wplus9 Love Birds

Embossing paste: how did I live without it? I love the depth and texture of the paste which has been coloured with Memento Luxe Love Letter and the jagged edges of the bold stripes which provide drama for the softer graphic image and coordinating sentiment. Glitter de rigueur!

Wplus9 Love Birds

Wplus9 are celebrating their birthday with lots of challenges, this week the focus is on dimension. I've used embossing and die cuts to achieve this. I've kept the embellishments to a minimum to allow the image and sentiment to take centre stage.
