Dancing in the Rain-bows!

Paper Smooches Spectrum

I took some time out to make this card and was inspired by Time Out Challenges: Dancing In the Rain. Such a happy dancing unicorn deserved special rainbow and gold rain!

Watercolour View #2

Paper Smooches We Totally Click, Mimi Monograms, Sentiment Sampler, Polaroid Dies, Bookmark Dies, Memory Box Prim Poppy Die

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I couldn't stop with one card for Virginia's View Watercolour Challenge and this card has two more types of watercolour techniques on it and some watercoloury patterned paper. I've used this week's CAS(E) this Sketch #68 and lots of Paper Smooches stamps and dies and had a go at some inlaid die cutting.

The flowers are diecut from some watercolour card which had been daubed in distress ink on my craft sheet. I misted the distress ink with glimmer mist and sprayed a little white paint on it too.

The bookmark is stamped using a watercolour mixture. I applied distress inks on an acrylic block, misted and then inked my stamps with the watery liquid.

I like the idea of including a little gift with the card, so a part of it goes on!

Watercolour View #1

Lawn Fawn Critters in the Sea, Year Two, Quinn's ABCs

This card has been in the making for quite a while, but as usual family has to be the first priority. I'm glad to be able to join in with Virginia's first challenge as I was afraid I would miss it.

This card has been inspired by Virginia's View first challenge: Watercolouring.

http://virginiasviewchallenge.blogspot.ca/2014/03/virginias-view-challenge-1.html

I've use heavy watercolour paper as I loaded the cardstock with a water wash before I introduced the distress ink colour and glimmer mist shine. While the background was drying I watercoloured my birthday fish with distress inks and gelatos mixed with water. Once the background was fully dry I heat embossed the sentiment in white and stamped the fish. Then stickles, sequins and glossy accents to finish.

Wplus9 Week4 Stretch Paste Wednesday

Wplus9 Onesie Two-sie, Simon Says Stamp Diagonal Stamp Stencil

Wplus9 wants us to stretch it and try something outside our creative norm for their Birthday Celebration Week 4.  I've decided to try a shaped card with embossing paste and embossing powder. I love this font from Wplus9, perfect for filling with stickles!  I've used Simon Says Stamp Diagonal Stripe stencil, but it was smaller than my card base so I had to carefully reposition it to continue the stripes across the card front.

I let the embossing paste dry before heat embossing. I found it very difficult to tell when the embossing powder had melted and am not sure if this is a characteristic of the verdigris embossing powder or the embossing powder on the embossing paste. Another possibility of course is that it's just me! Anyhow my project was created on Wednesday in time for my craft club and Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday and Monday Challenge.

Wplus9 Spotlight Floral Pearls

Wplus9 Fresh Cut Florals

My first attempt at the spotlight technique. I've used stamping as I didn't have any suitable dies and wanted to play along with Wplus9's Challenge. All my images are stamped in London Fog or Tuxedo Black on the card front and I've used Love Letter, Pistachio and Cottage Ivy for the diecut spotlighted flower. I created a Clean and Layered card for the Card Concept Floral Theme and used pearls for Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. I couldn't find any black card for my layers so I've used Black soot distress ink to alter some white card.

Wplus9 Watercolour WOW

Wplus9 Onesie Two-sie, Woodland Wreaths, Fresh Cut Florals

My sister had her first baby yesterday, I'll leave you to guess what it is! I wanted to make a special dreamy card for her new baby, so I thought Wplus9's watercolour-made-easy challenge would be a great place to start. I inked up my stamps in a slightly different manner to the Wplus9 tutorial

Stamping:
  • Ink stamp with distress ink & stamp on scratch paper
  • Brush glimmer mister on to stamp and huff on it
  • Stamp on watercolour paper
This seemed to help with keeping the water to a minimum, so that the stamp still showed the fine detail on the onesie. I also prepared a watercolour wash background to mimic the sky as a backdrop for my clothes line and bokeh stamping.

This baby's gender was kept as a wondrous surprise. I loved this and all the anticipation of the baby's birth. There are so few true surprises, hence I wanted the girl embellishment to be extra special. I embossed the top of the watercoloured die cut letters in clear embossing powder 3/4 times until they had a lovely glassy appearance. Then the bottom in gold WOW embossing powder for a dipped in chocolate look. I also added gold and silver embossed dots to my background.

Sorry the light levels are are quite low today, but hopefully you can still see some of the shimmer and shine all over the card. It really sparkles.
